What’s it for?

The Forces Help to Buy (FHTB) scheme is an interest-free advance of salary available to Regular Service personnel. The scheme is aimed to support first-time buyers and those who need to move home because they are assigned elsewhere. In extenuating circumstances you may also use FHTB to extend your property as the needs of your family change as detailed in JSP 464 (Vol 1 Pt 1 Ch 12).

What do I get?

Eligible personnel can borrow up to 50% of their annual salary (including specialist pay), capped at £25,000. The loan will normally be repaid over a period of up to 10 years. If you leave the Services before you have fully repaid the loan then any outstanding balance will be recovered from your terminal benefits.
