What’s it for?

When you’re assigned to a new qualifying duty station or medically discharged, you and your immediate family can move and store your belongings (officially called ‘personal effects’) at MOD expense. This includes moving to or from an Alternative Work Address if you are working remotely.

What do I get?

This benefit comes in the form of a cubic metre allowance. For homeowners or householders, the combined maximum volume of personal effects that may be moved or stored is 67.92 cubic metres.

If you are moving within the UK, you can choose to make your own arrangements to move your personal effects and then reclaim the actual costs up to a maximum of £48.54 per cubic metre, but for no more than six cubic metres

If you are a single Person living in Service provided accommodation you can store 6 cubic metres when you are deployed or assigned overseas if there is no storage available at your unit (you must apply for storage at your unit prior to claiming for storage at Public Expense).

How do I claim?

There are a number of contractor schemes that can be used – the Furniture Movement Service, the Removal Service Overseas and the Self Pack Service. Your unit HR/Personnel Office can advise on which one is most appropriate. You should then submit your request using the relevant contractor's website.

Alternatively, if after speaking to your Unit HR you decide to make your own arrangements, complete the form at Annex B to Section 4 of Chapter 12 of JPS 752 and submit it to your Unit HR. Once approved you should submit an Expenses Claim via  JPA iexpenses. More information can be found in the allowances and expenses self-service user guide (which can be found at JPA user guides)

If you dont have access to JPA then complete form F016 which can be found at JPA forms and submit it to your Unit HR admin office.
