Civilian Clothing Daily Allowance and Civilian Clothing Annual Grant

What’s it for?

This grant is for non-commissioned Service personnel who have to pay for and wear civilian clothing while on duty and meet the criteria set out in JSP 752.

You won’t be able to make a claim if you only wear civilian clothing when travelling between your home and your duty station, or between duty locations. You also won’t be able to claim if you are provided with the civilian clothing you wear on duty by the MOD.

The allowance does not cover the ordinary wear and tear of your civilian clothes that occurs when you carry out secondary duties (like acting as Officer in Charge of Sport).

What do I get?

There are two ways to claim this benefit: as a daily allowance, or an annual grant. 

• the Civilian Clothing Daily Allowance is payable when you have to wear civilian clothes over a period of less than 12 months.   As of 1 April 24 the allowance is £1.14 from for each day you wear your own civilian clothes for service reasons. The allowance starts only after you have worn civilian clothes on duty for a total of 60 days but is backdated to day one

• the Civilian Clothing Annual Grant is payable when you are expected to wear civilian clothing on duty at all times throughout the period of a permanent assignment. As of 1 April 24 the grant is £416 for each complete 12-month period.

How do I claim?

Obtain the agreement of your Commanding Officer to JPA Form F019,  which should then be submitted to Unit HR/Personnel Office. The form can be found at JPA Forms
