What’s it for?

The Forces Help to Buy (FHTB) scheme is an interest-free advance of salary available to eligible Regular Service personnel. The scheme supports Service personnel who wish to buy their first home, move home because of a new assignment, or, in some circumstances, extend an existing property where family needs have changed. Full policy details are set out in JSP 464, Volume 1, Part 1, Chapter 6.

What do I get?

Eligible Service personnel may borrow up to 50% of their annual salary, including specialist pay, to a maximum of £25,000. The advance is interest-free and is normally repaid through salary over a period of up to 10 years. If you leave the Services before the advance has been fully repaid, any outstanding balance will be recovered from your terminal benefits.
