What’s it for?

This allowance is for Service personnel  who are assigned to a Mine Countermeasures Vessel (MCMV) – but only if it’s classified as a Seagoing Longer Separation Allowance Qualifying Unit (SLQU) and you’re accommodated onboard overnight. A SLQU is defined as a seagoing vessel with a standard operating pattern that requires it to regularly operate away from its Base Port.

You won’t be able to claim this allowance if you’re not accommodated in an MCMV overnight. This includes Service people who live at home and travel into work, or those who have alternative accommodation provided ashore.

It’s also not available to those who are accommodated onboard overnight but are not assigned to the MCMV (e.g. overnight visitors).

What do I get?

This is a daily rate which is paid with your salary. From 1 April 23 the rate is £4.13, or £5.77 for junior ratings. In addition the rate for junior ratings deployed on Op Kipion has been increased to £10.58.

When can’t I use this?

You won’t be able to claim this benefit if you receive Unpleasant Living Allowance (Sea).

How do I claim this?

This will be processed automatically by your Unit HR/Personnel Office.
