Sponsored Reserves

A special form of Reserve Service, for employees of companies that provide support services to the MOD

  • reserves

Am I eligible?

To become a member of the Sponsored Reserves, you will need to work with an organisation contracted to deliver support services.

Any UK or Commonwealth citizen who works in a relevant organisation, regardless of whether or not they have any military experience, who meets the basic age, residency, medical and fitness criteria is eligible to join.

What do I get?

Sponsored Reserves (SRs) work for employers that have an arrangement (usually a contract) with the MOD to provide support services and who become special members of the Reserve Forces.

SRs have a liability for training and call-out so that they can be called out to continue to support the MOD on operations, utilising their civilian skills, but as Service personnel. Examples of this include logistics work, some aircraft technicians and vehicle fleet maintenance.

SRs have special liabilities for reserve service, training and call-out, and a contractor will be responsible for employing sufficient employees who have become SRs to meet the MOD’s requirements.

Your terms and conditions of service are modified to take account of the special liabilities and commercial relationships involved.

As an SR, you may not be called out unless the Secretary of State or someone acting with their Authority considers it appropriate.
