UK and Overseas Relocations

Support for when you relocate for work or are transferring to a role overseas.

Who is it for?

Civilian Staff who are relocating

What do I get?

UK Relocations - Whenever a move of job location occurs at MOD’s request the MOD may provide certain financial assistance for additional personal costs that arise.

Any assistance with costs will depend upon whether you are mobile or non-mobile, the nature and location of the new posting, what relocation terms are offered with the vacancy, whether you qualify for a Non-Standard transfer and upon a range of personal factors.

Overseas Relocations - When transferring overseas the allowances you can receive will depend upon a range of factors including the terms of transfer, location and your own personal and domestic circumstances. You can be working overseas in 4 different contexts:

  • Operational Deployment: These are managed through the Support to Operations (S2O) scheme. For further information on the S2O scheme and associated policy please see the S2O page.

  • Temporary Posting: These are postings to jobs which are located overseas. A posting that is planned to last more than 1 month and up to 365 days will be considered temporary.

  • Permanent Posting: These are postings to jobs which are located overseas. A posting that is planned to last more than 365 days will be considered permanent.

  • Short-term Business Overseas: Occasionally it may be necessary to travel overseas for less than 1 month; this is not considered as working overseas, for further information see the Travel and Subsistence Policy.
