Imperial Service Medal

Honouring the long service of Skill Zone and Band E staff who have worked within the Civil Service for at least 25 years.

Who is it for?

Skill Zone and Band E grades.

What do I get?

The Imperial Service Medal (ISM) recognises long and faithful service in the Civil Service. Those eligible for consideration are Skill Zone and Band E grades who, on leaving the MOD, have given not less than 25 years meritorious service. This does not have to be continuous nor exclusively with MOD to be considered for an ISM.

If you meet the criteria for this award, you will be recommended to the Cabinet Office Honours and Appointments Secretariat who will then submit this to the Cabinet Secretary to send to the Prime Minister for approval by HM The King.

Your award will be published in the London Gazette and receive a medal and certificate presented to you by the Head of Establishment.

It can take up to 6 months for the recommendation to be processed, for Royal Assent to be granted and for the medal itself to be produced and engraved. Once this is completed you will be notified and receive an invite to attend the presentation.

If you do not want to attend a presentation, arrangements will be made for the medal to be despatched to your home address.

See the Policy, Rules & Guidance: Imperial Service Medal, for further information.
