Childcare vouchers

Who is it for?

Please note that in October 2018, the Childcare Voucher Scheme closed to new applicants and was replaced by Tax-Free Childcare.

If you joined the Childcare Voucher Scheme before October 2018, you may remain in the scheme for as long as the MOD continues to offer it and:

  • You remain with the same employer. If you transfer between Government departments (including going on loan), you may not be eligible.
  • You do not take an unpaid career break of longer than a year.
  • You are not a member of the Tax-Free Childcare (TFC) Scheme. Once you have joined TFC, you cannot return to the Childcare Voucher Scheme.

What do I get?

Members of the scheme receive tax and National Insurance-exempt childcare vouchers (in either electronic or paper form) of your chosen salary sacrifice amount. The amount you can sacrifice will vary between a minimum of £30 and a maximum of £243 depending on your earnings threshold.

How do I claim?
